Chapter 2 Class Discussion 2

Q February 16th Class Discussion During the class on February 16th the following questions will be posed to discuss by either turning your mic on to talk or by answering in the chat. You are required to respond to at least one and encouraged to respond to more. Once you respond in class so we can hear each others responses you will summarize your verbal answer or copy you chat answer into this assignment. This can be completed during the class and will add to your participation grade. You can still do this if absent but small point deductions will apply. There will be leniency for 1 absence and excused absences, please communicate with me throughout the semester. Additional questions may be posed during the class- answers to those if complete can be used here as well. • Why do you think the ASA crafted such a detailed set of ethical principles? What type of study could put human participants at risk? Think of some examples of studies that might be harmful. Do you think that, in the name of sociology, some researchers might be tempted to cross boundaries that threaten human rights? Why? • Which of the research methods do you think is best and why?

I think the ASA crafted such a detailed set of ethical principles in order to protect the peoples well being who were participating in these research/ studies. A study that could put human participants at risk would be anything that could harm a persons mental health. An example of a study that I think would be harmful would be anything that has to do with death, differences of opinions, divorce or impairment.
